SP Wrap-up

Yesterday I came home late, as usual per this week, to find a huuuge package on the sofa. I was so excited! Look at the size of that!

Inside, there were so many packages that I started to jump up and down. My SO was a bit startled by my squeeking. But tell me, wouldn’t you squeek? :

And there was another layer of packages under that!

I think it was very big of me to actually take time to photograph these packages before I ripped them open.

Inside there was all sorts of goodies. Chocolate (I love Green&Black’s Organic chocolate!) and wonderful teas. I tasted the Apple&Cranberry yesterday. So good! Beautiful stitch markers (did you make these yourself?) and a pretty little notebook were also included. Yarn goodness was provided with 6 (!) skeins of wonderful merino wool. This is probably the best red you could have chosen to break from my SP questionnaire. I love it! There’s probably enough for me to make a sweater! And the hand-dyed, oh my god! I absolutely love the colors. It will most certainly become a colorful hat for Autumn. And the package fest didn’t end there, no way. There was a wonderful dutch book on hand crafts and a craft magazine with Japanese craft projects! It’s my first one. Now I get why there’s such a craze for Japanese craft instructions.

And last but not least, I got hand knitted crocheted socks! And sock blockers with cute birdies on them! I’ve never seen a pair of crocheted socks and the construction looks so interesting. They fit perfectly, see:

Now my SP did not reveal herself yet but I am beginning to have some very strong suspicions. I sent out an e-mail today to confirm them. I’ll let you know if (or when) I’m right. :)

Ms. Marigold

Yllätys! Olen siis kuitenkin neulonut kaikessa hiljaisuudessa. Ja saanut jopa jotain valmiiksikin asti. Ms. Marigold valmistui salakavalasti työkiireiden keskellä. Miten se aina onkin niin, että kaikki työt kasaantuvat viimeiselle viikolle ennen lomaa. Onneksi huomenna odottaa vapaus, ei tätä muuten jaksaisi.

Surprise! I have been knitting amidst all this silence. And I’ve got a FO to show for it. Ms. Marigold was knitted and finished in between working like a maniac. Can anyone tell me why all the work piles up on the last week before the holidays? Luckily I’m out of there tomorrow. Otherwise, I don’t think I could handle it.

Kiinnitin huomioni tähän malliin ensimmäistä kertaa Christyn blogissa, ja tarkasteltuani ohjetta tarkemmin ihastuin mallin pieniin röyhelyhihoihin. Kuvia tarkkailleet kuitenkin huomaavat, että omasta versiostani ne ikävä kyllä puuttuvat. Tämä johtuu ainoastaan siitä, että lanka loppui kesken. Siinä vaiheessa olin kuitenkin jo ihastunut paidan kauniisiin linjoihin ja dramaattiseen kaula-aukkoon.

I first noticed this pattern on Christy’s blog. I checked the pattern out and totally fell in love with the small ruffles on the shoulders. Now if you looked at the photos, you’ll see that in the end, my version has no ruffles. I still love them but I simply ran out of yarn before I could complete them. Luckily, at this point I had already began to appreciate the beautiful lines and the dramatic v-neck.

Puikot/Needles: 4mm Addi

Muutokset: Tein jälleen kerran pidemmän (n. 5 cm) paidan kuin ohjeessa. Tämä olikin syy langan loppumiselle. Enää ei harmita niin paljon, sillä mieluummin otan nuo ylimääräiset sentit kuin röyhelöiset olkapäät (vaikka ne söpöt ovatkin).

Modifications: Once again, I made a longer top than the pattern called for. I added approximately 2 inches to the length. And herein lies the trouble I had with the yarn running out. Still, I’d rather have the extra inches than the ruffles (as cute as they may be).

En ole vielä aivan varma osaanko pitää paitaa päälläni. Se on kotona ollut jo kovassa käytössä, mutta arkailen vielä käyttää sitä muualla tuon pääntien vuoksi. Vaikka se kaunis onkin, se ei ole aivan normaalia tyyliäni. Jääpi nähtäväksi pääseekö tämä käyttöön.

I’m not totally sure about this top. I’ve worn it at home a lot and I like it. I’m just not sure if I’ll wear it anywhere else. The trouble is the v-neck. I think it’s really pretty but it’s not exactly my usual style and I’m not totally comfortable with it yet. So whether this will get an approval rating into my wardrobe still remains to be seen.

Monkeys!

Print O’ the Wave ei ollut ainoa neule, joka valmistui viime viikolla. Hääkiireidenkin lomassa kerkesin neulomaan toisen Monkeyn valmiiksi ennätysajassa. Paljon pelätty toisen sukan syndrooma ei päässyt yllättämään.

Print O’ the Wave was not the only FO for last week. Despite all the last minute wedding stuff for my sister’s big day I managed to knit through my second Monkey sock in record time. There was not even a whiff of the much dreaded SSS.

Lanka/Yarn: Koigu KPPPM, P436
Puikot/Needles: 2,5 mm
Muutokset/Modifications: -

Tämä malli on ihastuttavan yksinkertainen neuloa, mutta samalla myös näyttävän näköinen. En yhtään ihmettele, että jotkin neulojat ovat suorastaan jääneet koukkuun tähän malliin.

This pattern is delightfully simple to knit but still looks impressive. It’s no wonder to me that some knitters seem to have formed an actual addiction with this pattern.

Apua! Se osaa käyttää työkaluja! /Help! The Monkey is using tools on me!

Tein sukista tarkoituksella hieman liian pienet (vain 5 mallikertaa jalkaan), sillä edelliset Koigu- sukkani venyivät jonkin verran käytössä. Hieman liian pienet sukat tuntuvat kuitenkin mukavan napakoilta jalassa. Näistä tulee oivat sukat loppukesän viileisiin iltoihin.

I made the socks a bit too small (only five pattern repeats on the foot) on purpose since my last Koigu- socks stretched with use. And I quite like how snug these socks feel on my feet. These will be perfect for those cool nights in late summer.

Print O’ the Wave

Malli/Pattern: Eunny Jang’s Print O’ the Wave
Lanka/Yarn: Grignasco Merinosilk, 50 g.

Print O’ the Wave valmistui juuri ajallaan siskoni häihin, ja kaikki sen aiheuttamat negatiiviset tunteet unohtuivat saman tien. Kuvat on otettu maistraatissa juuri ennen vihkimistä. Seremonia oli lyhyt ja yksinkertainen, mutta sitäkin kauniimpi. Taisimme kaikki vuodattaa muutaman kyyneleen, kun ainoa sisareni sanoi “tahdon” ja virallisti 8 vuoden suhteensa parhaaseen lankoon, jota sisko voisi toivoa.

Print O’ the Wave was finished just in time for my sister’s wedding and all the aggravation it caused me in the making was immediately forgotten. The pictures were taken just before the ceremony at city hall. The ceremony itself was short and simple but oh so beautiful. I think we all shed a few tears when my only sister said “I do” and made official her 8- year relationship to the best brother-in-law a sister could hope for.

Siskoni puku on kokonaan äitipuoleni käsialaa. Hän suunnitteli ja ompeli puvun päivässä! Toivon joskus olevani edes puoleksi yhtä hyvä ompelija. Tarkkanäköisimmät varmaan huomaavatkin, että suunnittelua vaikeutti se, että siskoni odottaa myös perheenlisäystä. Pieni siskontyttö tai -poika syntyy lokakuussa, ja tuleva täti pääsee tietenkin neulomaan järjettömät määrät ihanan pieniä vauvanvaatteita.

My sister’s wedding gown was designed and made by my stepmom. She went from fabric to gown in a day! One day I hope to be even half the seamstress that she is today. The most perceptive of you will also notice that her work was made a bit trickier by the fact that my sister is expecting my first niece or nephew who should arrive in October. I’m so excited that I now get to knit ridiculous amounts of small baby things.

Innostus – Excitement

Minä en ole ompelija. Olen aina pitänyt ompelua hankalana, ja jopa hieman epämiellyttävänä toimintana. Tottakai opin koulussa perusasiat ompelusta ja kunnon käsityöläisen lailla omistan suhteellisen laadukkaan ompelukoneen. Tähän mennessä sen käyttö on kuitenkin rajoittunut lähinnä farkkujen lyhentämiseen ja ihka ensimmäisten verhojeni muokkaamiseen. (Kiitos Äiti, tämä lahja tuli tarpeeseen. Ihan oikeasti.)

I’m not a seamstress. I’ve always felt that sewing is a tricky and even a bit unpleasant activity. Of course I learned all the basics of sewing in school like all Finnish children and I even own a decent sewing machine like a good crafty girl should. But so far the only activity the machine has seen is shortening all my jeans to a decent fit and cropping my first ever curtains. (Thanks for the awesomely needed gift Mom! Seriously.)

“We’re in the Monkey biz…”

Tiedetään: “…The Monkey boogie is nothing new.” Miltei kaikki muut Monkey- aiheiset otsikot ovatkin sitten jo käytettyjä. Propsit sille, joka tunnistaa tämän (ainakin minun kirjoissani) ikivihreän.

I know: “…The Monkey boogie is nothing new.” All the other Monkey related titles were already taken. So Respecth (!) for anyone who recognizes this (at least in my book) classic.

Muut neuleet taas… Print O’ the Wave on edennyt. Muuta hyvää en sitten neuleesta saakaan sanottua. Olen niin lopen kyllästynyt neulomaan tätä! Keskipaneelit sujuivat vielä hyvin: nopeaa ja yksinkertaista, mikäs siinä? Reunuksen neulominenkin tuntui aluksi jännittävältä sen helvetillisen tunnin jälkeen, jonka vietin silmukoiden keskipaneeleja yhteen. Uusi pitsimalli ja lyhyet kerrokset, mikäs sen mukavampaa? Uutuuden viehätys alkoi kuitenkin vähentyä tuossa 20 mallikerran jälkeen. Nyt kun mallikertoja on takana yli 50 ja vielä 31 jäljellä, voin rehellisesti sanoa, että mieluummin halailisin myrkyllisiä käärmeitä. Mutta sisko vihitään perjantaina, joten…

My other projects then… Print O’ the Wave has progressed. That’s just about the only good thing I can say about it right now. I’m so sick and tired of knitting this stole! The center panels were a good knit: fast and relatively simple, what’s not to like? And after the hellish hour of grafting them together, the border seemed like a breath of fresh air. A new lace pattern, very short rows, who could ask for more? However, the novelty started to wear off after about 20 pattern repeats. Now, after more than 50 pattern repeats and still 31 to go, I can honestly say I’d rather be hugging poisonous snakes. But my dear sis is getting married on Friday so…

Ja ei, tämä huivi ei ansaitse valokuvaa, sillä kaikkien pitsien lailla se näyttää lähinnä koiran oksennukselta ilman pingoitusta. Sen sijaan esittelemme apinan kotiympäristössään.

Huono blogaaja – Bad Blogger

Aloitetaan anteeksipyynnöillä. Olen ollut niin huono blogaaja kuin kommentoijakin lähiaikoina. En ole blogannut tai vastannut ihaniin kommentteihinne enkä kommentoinut riittävästi muissa blogeissa. Jostain syystä kaikki kirjoittamiseen liittyvä tekeminen on ollut kuin tervassa juoksemista. Puolikas lause ja äh. Ja sitten koko asia jää siihen. Joten anteeksi! Yritän olla parempi.

Let’s start with apologies. I’ve been a bad blogger and a bad commenter lately. I haven’t really blogged or answered your lovely comments nor have commented enough on other blogs. It seems like all things written have been like wading through tar. I write half a sentece and then meh. And then I leave it. So I’m sorry! I promise to be better.

Neulominen on sen sijaan maistunut hyvin uuden järjestelmän myötä. Print O’ the Wave:n keskipaneelit ovat valmiina. Onnistuin jopa liittämään paneelit yhteen. Voin kertoa, ettei tuollaisen 80 cobweb- silmukan neulaaminen yhteen ole minun hermoilleni sopivaa puuhaa. Mutta nyt on jäljellä enää reunus! Deadlineen kokonaista kaksi viikkoa.

Knitting, on the other hand, has progressed admirably with the new system. The center panels for the Print O’ the Wave are done and I even managed to graft them together. Let me tell you, grafting 80 stitches in cobweb yarn is not for the faint of heart. But now there’s only the border to do! And there’s two weeks until the deadline so I have ample time to finish.

Ja kahden viikon jälkeen enää toiset kaksi viikkoa kesälomaan. Vain neljä viikkoa! Olen tehnyt jo kymmeniä listoja lomaa varten. Aion matkustella Suomessa, lukea, opetella ompelemaan lisää (voi minkä teitte ompelublogaajat!) ja tietenkin neuloa. Lomakirjanikin saapuivat hyvissä ajoin eilen.

After the two weeks there’s only another two weeks until my summer holiday. Only four weeks! I’ve made tens of lists for my holiday. I intend to travel (in Finland), read lots of books, learn how to sew better (damn you crafty bloggers!) and of course knit. With good time to spare, my holiday books arrived yesterday.
