Välipala-askartelua – A snack between meals

Olen ollu edelleen tilkkutöiden lumoissa ja uusia ideaoita pursuaa niin pää kuin ompeluhuonekin. Mitään valmista ei tältä rintamalta ole kuitenkaan vielä näyttää, joten tässäpä pieni välikevennys. Mummollani on 85- vuotis päivät tulossa, joten kortin teko alkoi olla eilen todella ajankohtaista.

I’ve still been quilting like crazy and my head (and craft room) is full of new ideas and works in progress. I still don’t have anything ready to show you on that front, so here’s a little snack instead. My Grandma is turning 85 soon and yesterday I realized that if I want to get a card in the mail in time I better start doing something about it.

Hänen ja öh, hänen – His and hers

Ompelukone ei suinkaan ole päässyt lepäilemään, vaikka hiljaista täällä onkin ollut. Jo kesällä aloittamani pikkutäkit ovat saaneet sisäänsä vanua ja päälleen roppakaupalla tikkausta. Täkit ovat menossa lahjaksi lähipiirin pienimmille. Pojan täkki siskonpojalle ja tytön täkki ystävän vauvalle.

The sewing machine hasn’t been resting even if it has been a bit quiet around here. The small quilts I began during Summer have got some nice batting and a whole lot of quilting on top of it. The quilts are gifts for the babies in my circle of friends and family.The boy one is for my nephew and the girly one for a friend’s baby girl.

Näihin täkkeihin päätin käyttää perinteistä tilkkutäkkimallia, jotta pääsin käyttämään jo valmiiksi leikattuina ostamiani charm pack:eja. Sekaan heitin vaaleansinistä jämäkangasta, jota pyöri nurkissa ja jota tarvitsin saadakseni tarpeeksi suuret täkit. Siltikään kankaat eivät ihan meinanneet riittää, mutta onneksi täkkeilyä harrastavalla ystävällä sattui olemaan juuri samoja kankaita sen verran, että tytönkin täkki tuli valmiiksi. Koko prosessi oli tällä kertaa helpompi, kun tiesi ja osasi jo hurjasti enemmän. Tuo koneella tikuttelukin tuntui sujuvan jo ilman suurempia ongelmia kankaiden rypyttymisen tai muun sellaisen kanssa. Kyllä se tästä.

I decided to use a more traditional quilt pattern for these quilts since I still had some charm packs left and I didn’t want to cut them any smaller. I threw in some light blue fabric that I had in my stash to get large enough quilts. Still I didn’t have quite enough fabrics to complete both quilts but luckily a quilter friend of mine had the exact same fabrics in her stash so I could finish the girl’s quilt too. The whole process was a lot easier this time as I mostly knew what I was doing. Even the quilting (machine, in the ditch) was much easier this time around and I had far less problems with the quilt sandwich bunching up and getting wrinkled than the last time. Some progress is obviously happening.

Ovathan nämä aika heteronormatiiviset, mutta uskon, että nämä uppoavat ainakin lahjansaaja-vauvojen vanhempiin. Vauvat itse tuskin omaavat vielä mielipidettä asiasta. :)

i know these are pretty heteronormative but I believe that the parents of the babies in question will like them. And the babies themselves probably won’t have an opinion quite yet. :)

Ja voittaja on… – And the winner is…

Kiitos kaikista ihanista syysajatuksista! Niitä oli todella hauska lukea ja sai taas monta kivaa juttua, mitä odottaa tältä syksyltä. En ole vielä kerennyt sienimetsään ainakaan, ja se on kyllä sekä hauvan että minun mielestäni hauskaa. Hieman huijasin tänä viikonloppuna ja tein kanttarelli-mozzarella täytteisiä paprikoita kaupan sienistä, kun tuli niin kova himo. :)

Thank you for all your comments on Fall! It was wonderful to read through them and rethink my position on Fall. There were many great things there that I’m already looking forward to doing. LIke going mushroom picking which is a common past time here in Finland. Both I and the doggie love to romp through the forest looking for delicious mushrooms. I especially love chantarelles and this weekend I cheated a little and got some from the store to make chantarelle-mozzarella cheese filled sweet peppers. Yummy!
