New York, New York!

Blogin pitäjä ei suinkaan ole ollut lähiaikoina laiska. Sen sijaan allekirjoittanut on kaikessa hiljaisuudessa matkustanut maaliman ääriin etsimään ruokaa, kangasta, lankaa ja kokemuksia. Kaikkia näitä oli tarjolla Ameriikan ihmemaassa ison veden tuolla puolen.

The blogwriter has indeed not been so lazy in the last weeks. Instead I have secretly sneaked off to a trip very far far away in search of food, fabrics, yarn, and experiences. All of these were found in the mysterious land across the sea known as the US of A.

It Is So great!

Kevään ja loman lähestyessä päätin, että tarvitsen ehdottomasti uuden laukun. Tällä kertaa aion vielä pitääkin sen itse! Niinpä sunnuntaina käytin koko päivän tämän tekemiseen, ja oli kyllä sen arvoista.

With Spring and my holiday approaching, I decided that I really need a new bag.And that I was actually going to keep it for myself this time. So on Sunday I devoted the whole day to making this bag. And it was totally worth it.

Laukusta tuli hieman isompi kuin mitä olin ajatellut, mutta loppujen lopuksi koko ei haittaa lainkaan. Tykkään vähän isommista laukuista muutenkin, ja tämän saa sopivasti heitettyä olan ylikin.

The bag turned out to be slightly bigger than I expected but in the end that’s okay.I like big bags anyway and now I can wear this slung over one shoulder or even across my chest.

Ohje oli Amy Butlerin parhaimmistoa, ja varmasti helpoin Amy Butler laukku, jonka olen tähän mennessä tehnyt. Ei teree- nauhoja, ei ihan niin älyttömiä määriä kovikekankaita, eikä ommeltavia tiukkoja kurveja. Kaiken kaikkiaan menestys.

The pattern is guaranteed Amy Butler quality and probably the easiest Amy Butler bag that I’ve made. No piping, only a reasonable amount of interfacing and no tight curves to sew. All in all, a success.

Habitat

Huomasin viime viikolla omistavani vain yhden ainoan pipon, jota oikeasti käytän. Hieman nolo tilanne neulojalle, joten asialle piti ehdottomasti tehdä jotain. Apuun riensi Habitat, joka muotoutui oikein mallikkaasti puikoille ja valmistuikin ennätysajassa.

Last week I noticed that I only have on single hat that I actually use. It was a bit of an embarrassing moment for a self-proclaimed knitter so I absolutely had to do something about it, stat! Habitat came to my rescue and formed itself very nicely on my needles and even had the decency to get finished in record time.

Täkin päällisiä – Quilt Tops

Ompelu on sujunut huomattavasti neulomista nopeammin, ja tuloksiakin on saatu aikaiseksi. Ensimmäinen Väripyörä- täkin päällinen valmistui viikonloppuna ja MixTape- täkki jo vähän aikaisemmin.

My sewing has been progressing much faster than my knitting lately. I finished the first Color Wheel quilt top this weekend and my MixTape quilt top a bit earlier.

Väripyörä- täkkiin päätin lopulta pienen konsultaation avulla lisätä reunoille rivin hirsimökkitilkkuja, joissa on samoja kankaita kuin itse ympyrässäkin. Värit tosin kulkevat päinvastaiseen suuntaan kuin ympyrässä, jolloin vastavärit ovat lopputuloksessa hauskasti lähekkäin. Tykkään tästä efektistä paljon.

Hirsimökit ovat kooltaan 9,5 tuumaa kantti (10 tuumaa ennen ompelua) 4 tuuman “sisuksella” (4,5″ ennen ompelua), jos jotain kiinnostaa.

After some consultation with a friend, I finally decided to add some log cabins to my Color Wheel quilt. The log cabins use the same colors as the wheel but the colors go in the opposite direction around the quilt. This way opposite colors are grouped close to each other creating a nice effect that I really like.

The log cabin squares are 9,5 inches (10″ before sewing) with a 4″ hearth (4,5″ before sewing) if anyone is interested.

Mixtape- täkin päällinen on jo päässyt käyttöönkin, koska se näytti niin hyvältä paikoillaan, kun testasin kokoa. Pitäähän tämä toki joskus tehdä loppuunkin asti, mutta sen aikaa menee noinkin. Tätä täkkiä oli tosi hauska pistää kokoon, koska ohje on aivan mainio ja täkki on jotenkin niin “looginen”. Nörtin hommia siis selvästi. :)

My Mixtape- quilt top is already in use since it looked so good when I tried it on for size. Eventually I will have to actually finish it but until then it can stay where it is. This quilt was really fun to make because the pattern is so well written and the quilt top is somehow really logical. Great for a nerd like me. :)
