Hyvä ystäväni muutti kesän aikana uuteen asuntoon ja koska myös hänen syntymäpäivänsä on kesän korvilla, päätin lyödä kaksi kärpästä samalla iskulla ja tehdä yhden ison lahjan.
A good friend of mine moved into a new apartment this summer and since her birthday is also in the late Spring I decided to hit two birds with one stone and make one, big gift.
Tämäkin täkki on tehty HST-blokeista, tällä kertaa vain suuremmista. Kun edellinen oli tehty “Charm pack”- palasista (5 tuuman neliöt) niin tämä on tehty sitten kerroskakusta eli Layer Cake- palasista, jotka ovat 10 tuuman neliöitä. Momo:n Freebird- kangaslinja oli ihan ystäväni näköinen ja yksi Layer Cake riitti hyvin tähän täkkiin. Sain jopa valkattua ystäväni inhoamat violetit palaset pois.
Like the previous quilt, this one is also made with HST-blocks. The only difference is that the previous one was made with Charm packs (5″ squares) and this one was made with a Layer cake (10″ squares). For the fabrics I chose Momo’s Freebird line as it’s inline with my friend’s taste. One Layer cake was enough for the whole quilt top and I even managed to snag out all the purple squares as my friend really dislikes the color.
Täkin tikkaukset jätin hyvin harvoiksi ja yksinkertaisiksi. Lopputulema tuntui kuitenkin vähän liiankin simppeliltä, joten uskaltauduin reunoille kokeilemaan jotain uutta: paperisabluunatikkausta. Ostin tämän sabluunan aikoinaan Tilkkutexista, ja tuotteen nimi on “Borders made easy”. Sabluuna on paperinauha, jonka toisella puolella on liimanauha. Sen avulla sabluuna kiinnitetään täkkiin ja sitten vain tikataan viivaa pitkin. Itse tikkaaminen meni yllättävän nopeasti ja helposti, mutta paperin poistamisessa vierähti TV- ohjelma jos toinenkin. Tulos on kuitenkin kaiken vaivan arvoinen.
I left the stitching to a bare minimum on this quilt: sparse and simple. The end result seemed even a little too simple so I decided to try something new for the borders: paper template stitching. I used a product called “Borders made easy” that is a paper template with sticky tape that you can use to attach the template to your quilt. Then you simply stitch on the line. While the stitching was very easy and even fast, removing the paper took longer than I expected. The end result is well worth the effort, though.
Täkistä tuli sen verran ihana, että ennenkuin luovuin tästä, ostin kaksi uutta Layer cake- pakkausta. Joskos sitä vaikka itsellekin. :)
I like this quilt so much that before I gave it away, I bought two new Layer cakes. Maybe I need one too. :)
