Kovin hiljaista on ollut neulerintamalla sitten pääsiäisen. Koko pääsiäinen kului perheen parissa puuhastellen, ja vain muutama tunti siellä täällä jäi neulomiseen. Sain tosin aikaiseksi viime viikolla aloittamani Rozan sukat (kevät IK) Trekking Pro Naturasta*, jotka menivät suoraan puikoilta syntymäpäivälahjapakettiin ja äidin jalkoihin. Kiviä saa heittää vapaasti, sillä unohdin valokuvata nämä ihanuudet ennenkuin lähdin kotikaupungistani. Olin kuumeessa, enkä ajatellut selvästi. Lupaan seuraavalla kerralla ottaa kuvia.
It’s been all quiet on the knitting front since Easter. My whole vacation was spent with the family and I only had an hour here and there for knitting. I managed to finish a pair of Roza’s socks (Spring IK) from Trekking Pro Natura that went straight from the needles into a gift wrapper and then onto my Mom’s feet. And there they stayed. Feel free to throw stones/give me good kick on the butt, because I forgot to photograph them. I managed to get a fever and I wasn’t thinking straigth. I promise to remedy this the next time I visit my Mom.
Tässä kuitenkin lanka. / Here’s the yarn though.
Olen kuitenkin onnistunut neulomaan Cookien German Stocings- sukkien alun kahteen kolmeen kertaan. Ensimmäinen versio tuntui aivan liian isolta, vaikka mittasin koipeni hyvinkin tarkkaan.
I did start a pair of Cookie’s German Stockings twice three times. The first version seemed to be unnaturally big although I had measured my legs with all the precision I could muster. So rip them I did. For the second try I just went with the smallest possible size and decided it would be good enough. Problems began to arise again when I started to knit the cable-motif on the train ride back home. After a couple of rows I noted that the motif wasn’t turning out quite like it looked in the pictures. Doggedly, I still carried on knitting, thinking that it was probably just me. But after about an inch it became obvious that it just wasn’t going to be anything like the original and during the last few miles I furiously ripped the cable-motif. In hindsight it probably wasn’t one of my brightest ideas to knit a complicated cable pattern while feverish in a full train car (with pets!) all the while trying to keep an eye on my own dog…
Kotiin päästyäni päätin lukea koko ohjeistuksen läpi uudelleen ennen palmikkokuvion uudelleen neulomista. Ja yllätys, yllätys, olihan minulta jäänyt muutama hyvinkin tärkeä kohta huomaamatta: WS- selite todellakin tarkoittaa vain nurjalla puolella (eli vain kantalapussa) neulottavia kohtia. Uudella innolla sain neulottua palmikkokuvion päivässä, kahdessa:
When I got home I decided to read through the whole instruction before beginning the cable-motif again. And surprise, surprise, I had neglected to read a few crucial parts before. Note to self: the abbreviation WS really does mean only the knitting that is done on the wrong side (i.e. it only applies in the heel flap). With renewed vigour I knit the whole cable-motif in a day or two:
Eikö ole nätti? / Isn’t it pretty?
* Neuletapaamisessa olleille: sain sukat hyvissä ajoin tuntia ennen (!) syntymäpäiväjuhlia valmiiksi, ja onnistuin myös pelastamaan tapaamisessa katkenneen ebenpuupuikon äidin hiontavälineiden avulla.
Voi itku kuinka kauniit sukat tulossa!
Onpa kadehdittavan kauniit sukat tuloillaan!
Psst. mulla on tuon vaihdon emännän osoite , eli jos kiinnostaa laittaa yhdessä jotain kiitokseksi hänelle Suomesta, niin olen jo porukkaa keräämässä..
Ilmineeraahan mielipiteesi.
Tosi ihanat! Cookie A. on nero! “Twisted Flower” on täälläpäin työn alla. Ja nekin ovat niin ihanat!
kauniit sukat noista on tulossa!
On tosi nätti! :)
Love your sock progress! I may have to knit these for myself now!
looking good! makes me want to get started on mine…
Looks beautiful!!
Your German Stocking is looking lovely! Mine has been on hold because I, like you, found that it was coming out really big, even after measuring/checking gauge. I’ll probably just cast on for a smaller size…eventually. :)
It looks great! I can’t wait to see the whole thing. You asked on my blog if I had read any of the Terry Pratchett Guard books yet. Not yet. Going Postal is still my favorite, but the next time I go to the bookstore I will pick up Guards, Guards!
Just a note, Cookie is a friend and when I got the pattern from her she said that the cuff should probably be done with a smaller size needle. I don’t know if she changed that on the published pattern or not, I know she was under a lot of pressure to get the patterns released (Just a bit of an understatement!). I know it is too late for you on this one… but it looks great!
The German stocking looks wonderful so far!
